For more than 100 years the racing world has descended on Paris Longchamp Racecourse on the first weekend in October for the biggest event on the calendar: the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
A world championship in everything but name only, the race is contested by some of the best horses and jockeys around the world and, having been named ‘Best Race in the World’ five times in the last eight years, is widely considered the world's most prestigious all-aged horse race.
The Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1) sees 24 horses run on turf over a mile-and-a-half, with a purse of €5 million. With the race taking place at the end of the European flat season, the Arc is often viewed as a long-term target for owners and trainers, with previous winners including Enable, Sea The Stars and Treve.
