HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL RACES

With a total purse of $4.6 million, the Longines Hong Kong Cup is currently the richest race in Hong Kong and the most lucrative mile-and-a-quarter turf race in the world.

The initial incarnation of the Hong Kong Cup took place at Sha Tin Racecourse (continued to this day) back in 1988.  However, it was not until 1999 that the contest was formally named and given international Group 1 status.

The race is the centrepiece of Hong Kong’s biggest sporting event titled the Hong Kong International Races which also includes the Hong Kong Mile, Vase and Sprint.

Through HBA Media's partnership with the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the prestigious FWD Champions' Day (April) is also available to international broadcasters.
