The Belmont Stakes is the third and final leg of the ‘Triple Crown’, held at Belmont Park Racecourse. It is also the oldest of the three races which includes the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.
Often referred to as ‘The Test of Champions’, the Group 1 Belmont Stakes sees a maximum of 12 horses run on dirt over a mile-and-a-half, with a $1.5 million purse on offer.
While the Kentucky Derby starts the quest and the Preakness Stakes continues it, there is nothing else that can match the drama and electricity of a June afternoon at Belmont Park, with crowds in excess of 100,000 to witness a Triple Crown bid.
With only 13 Triple Crown winners in it's 100-year-old plus history, the Belmont Stakes represents a unique opportunity to see one of the best racehorses of all time. Previous winners of the iconic Triple Crown title include Secretariat, American Pharoah and Justify.
